RTR 4188 - Maurice Chevalier - Louise

The finest single CD available of the most famous Frenchman of them all makes a superb addition to Retrospective range. Maurice Chevalier (1888-1972) was the best-known Frenchman outside France. With his romantic swagger and instantly identifiable crooning style, his trademark straw boater and pouting lower lip, he was for millions the Gallic spirit personified. From the music halls he went on to star in many films. He helped Gigi to the Oscar for Best Picture in 1958 when, at the age of 70, he was given a special Academy Award to celebrate half a century as one of the world’s leading entertainers. Chevalier’s recordings have sold many, many millions, but the single CD to have must now be Louise. This marvellous collection has all his best known hits: Mimi, Paris stay the same, My love parade, You brought a new kind of love to me, Ma pomme, Valentine – spearheaded of course by his enduring signature tune Louise. The time-span stretches 31 years from the 1927 Quand on est tout seul to the much-loved Gigi classics, including Thank Heaven For Little Girls.
